Creative Writing: Elements of Writing
May 20th to June 10th
Ages 8 to 12
  • A weekly four session class available as a package or individually.

  • Small class size

  • Individual attention

  • Group fun

What to expect from a Session:

In each one hour session, we will play with one element of writing.

Every session begins with a fun group activity giving us the chance to get to know one another and explore an element of writing. For example, we might tell a story as a group.

From there, we define and discuss that session’s central concept. For example, on Character day, we talk about flat vs round characters, antagonists and protagonists, and how to create memorable characters. After that, we read aloud and discuss a short excerpt dealing with that session’s topic. For example, on Setting day, we will read a description of an unusual city from Kevin Brockmeier’s "The Brief History of the Dead". Finally, we have ten minutes of quiet group writing, and after that we share our writing with the group. When we share work, we’ll learn how to offer constructive feedback so that everyone feels heard and understood.
